Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
The world's largest bronze statue of the face of Saint Charbel was erected this evening, Thursday, on the grounds of the Monastery of Saint Charbel in Punchbowl, Sydney, in the presence of thousands of believers. This is a moment of great significance not only for Australia but for the universal Church.
Father Anthony Azzi, Parish Secretary of the Monastery of Saint Charbel in Australia and said: "The idea did not stem from a desire to create something grand, but from something deeply rooted in the Maronite spiritual tradition."
This same intention shaped the design of the statue. Father Anthony said, “Saint Charbel never sought to draw attention to himself. His holiness was hidden, formed through silence, prayer, fasting, and complete surrender to God. For this reason, the statue was not designed as a monument to grandeur, but as a guiding light.” This towering bronze statue, weighing 900 kilograms and standing over four meters tall, was hoisted by crane into the monastery building following a solemn prayer procession of 150 people carrying the bronze image of Saint Charbel’s face, amidst the participation of thousands of faithful. After the prayer procession, a Mass was celebrated.
