Bibi Netanyahu, You Stand Guilty

Bibi Netanyahu, You Stand Guilty
New York     Cesar Chelala
Guilty of using the sin of war
to distract from your own sins,
in doing so
slaughtering tens of thousands.
Guilty of making
Gaza, Iran,
Syria, Lebanon
-and counting-
into theaters of ruin.
Guilty of destroying thousands of homes
and the very systems
that sustains human life.
Guilty of having turned Rafah
into a sad memory
Guilty of ordering the displacement
of millions,
left without shelter
or protection.
Guilty of shattering children’s futures
and the fragile arc
of their development.
Guilty of bombing schools, hospitals,
medical research centers
in the process killing physicians
and other medical personnel.
Guilty of stoking animosity
against Jews and Israelis
to levels unseen in generations.
Guilty of corroding
the reputation of your country
and the moral compass
of your soldiers.
Guilty of crushing
any hope
for a more humane world
leaving only the devastating dimension
of lost lives.
At the very moment
your latest round of destruction
unfolded in Iran
a mission to the moon
was underway.
Which leaves us asking:
why reach for the moon
when peace
eludes us on Earth.
