Letter from an Imaginary Kingdom

Janet Brof
This is just a word of caution
from far, far away,
from a world of imaginary beings
who see more clearly than the living,
a world that an unguarded child
would call a world upside down,
a world not ruled by real leaders
but by scoundrels pretending to be,
who play with people’s lives
and the future of humanity
as if it were only a game,
unimpeded by any concern
and showing no compassion,
a world where rulers cheat and lie
and mistake cruelty for strength,
a world of warmongers
who etch a brutal geography of fear
while humanity stands on edge
as it risks final extinction,
and common people
plead for mercy
from those who chose
not to hear.
