Hagarty calls on Councillors to reject Rossmore Grange industrial proposal
23 February 2026
Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
Nathan Hagarty, the Member for Leppington, has called on Liverpool City Councillors to reject a proposal that could see Rossmore Grange turned into an industrial precinct.
Councillor Matthew Harte’s Notice of Motion (NOM 05), to be considered at the upcoming Council meeting, proposes progressing investigations into the rezoning and reclassification of more than 80 hectares of publicly owned open space at Rossmore Grange for potential residential and industrial development.
“Privatisation is in the Liberal Party’s DNA and this proposal is just the latest example,” Mr Hagarty said.
“A Liberal Councillor who doesn’t even live in Liverpool, he lives in Peakhurst, wants to explore the idea of turning more than 80 hectares of public open space in an industrial park.”
“Factories, warehousing, concrete and heavy trucks should not replace land that could instead deliver parks, recreation facilities and green space for growing families.”
“Publicly owned land should be delivering public benefit. Once it’s sold off or lost to development, it doesn’t come back.”
Mr Hagarty said the proposal was particularly concerning given ongoing shortfalls in open space delivery across surrounding growth suburbs.
“Families are moving into our area every day. Kids need places to play and communities need green space — not more concrete,” he said.
“This is a unique and strategically located site with enormous potential. I’m ready to work with Council to see Rossmore Grange used to its full potential with parks, walking trails, playing fields and sporting facilities.”
Mr Hagarty urged Councillors to reject NOM 05 at the upcoming meeting and prioritise long-term community benefit.
