Pope Leo XIV:  A Message of Reconciliation, Peace, and Support for the Christian Presence in the Middle East
**
"To be witnesses of reconciliation and peace in lands torn apart by conflict." — Pope Leo XIV
October 11, 2026
Sydney – Middle East Times Int'l: Pope Leo XIV addressed the mission of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church to bear witness to reconciliation and peace amidst wars, unrest, economic challenges, and religious extremism.
In conclusion, he noted that the Holy See, thanks to the generosity of many, provides scholarships to the faithful in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. This support fosters Catholic education and assists Christian families in remaining in the Middle East, thereby preserving the Christian presence in the region.
The Pope continued by noting that history has shown us that the trials faced—whether through martyrdom or sacrifices made out of love for one's neighbor—offer an opportunity to demonstrate faith in a way that resonates in the hearts of those who yearn for true peace.
He added: "Thus, I pray that you continue—sustained by Christian hope and love for all those with whom you live—to nurture the youth and encourage everyone in accordance with your noble traditions."
