Abbot Paul Noman passed away in Lebanon 12/09/2026 (See translation in Arabic section) Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: Abbot Paul Noman, former General Secretary of the Maronite Lebanese Church and one of the most prominent religious and national figures in Lebanon, has passed away. Abbot Noman was born in Sharton - Upper Galilee in 1932, and studied philosophy and theology at the Holy Spirit University - Al-Kassali between 1951 and 1957. He received a doctorate in history from the University of Rome in 1959, and then a doctorate in history from the University of Rome in 1966. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Director of the History Institute at the Holy Spirit University - Al-Kassali from 1972 to 1980, and taught history at the university between 1970 and 2000. He held the position of General Secretary of the Maronite Lebanese Church from 1980 to 1986. Abbot Noman wrote many books, articles, and lectures on Lebanese and Christian history, especially the history of the Maronite Church, in Arabic, French, and English. |
