When the Familiar Vanished New York Cesar Chelala Nobody knew when growing up that one day we would wake and no longer recognize our world- that the values we believed unbreakable would simply cease to exist, as if swallowed by a sudden fog. That no one would remember the meaning of peace, social justice, kindness, while the distant, children’s cries of suffering continue unabated, and unheard. And children pray for a world that knows how to protect them, how to be gentle again.
