Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation Makes Immediate Donation to Pakistan Flood Victims SR10 M Donation made in response to campaign initiated by King Abdullah     Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation made an immediate SR 10 million donation for the flood victims of Pakistan that has affected 20 million people and left over 1600 homeless. HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud is the Chairman of the foundation and Vice Chaired by HH Princess Ameerah Altaweel and Ms. Muna AbuSulayman is the Secretary General of the Foundation. The donation was announcement live during the televised campaign to help Pakistan’s victims that was initiated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, yesterday, Monday 16th August 2010. The announcement was made by Dr. Sheikh Ali Al Nashwan, Board Member of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation. Prince Alwaleed had contributed to a number of humanitarian causes in Pakistan. In 2005, HRH visited Pakistan on two occasions, the first was in March and the second visit later that year was to witness at first hand the earthquake hit areas of Pakistan. During his trip HRH was met by Mr. Shaukat Aziz former Pakistani PM and the two toured the devastated sites. His visit followed the announcement of a SR20 million donation to the earthquake victims. The two-fold donation comprised of tents, blankets, medicine and cash. The medical supplies were valued at SR5 million. HRH donated ten thousand tents valued at SR6 million and 30,000 blankets valued at SR3 million. The cash amounted to SR6 million. In addition to that donation, HRH also gave a donation to finance the construction of 20 schools in the affected areas during his visit. During the trip to Pakistan in 2006, HRH was bestowed the Hilal-i-Pakistan honorary medal by the former President Musharraf during an official ceremony for conferment held at the President's residence (Aiwan-e-Sadr) in Islamabad. HRH through Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation has donated to many philanthropic projects globally including, HRH made a donation for the earthquake victims of Indonesia to help construct an earthquake-resistant orphanage for the children orphaned by the disaster, an immediate donation for much needed medical aid for the Typhoon Ketsana victims of the Philippines, immediate donation for the much needed food aid for the flood and landslide victims of Vietnam, SR3 million donation to provide 100 housing units for poor families in Egypt, aid to Yemen to help the Yemenis displaced by the conflict in Sa’da district, $200,000 to the Islamic Development Bank for Malawi project that aims to provide basic health care in some areas, $100,000 to the Earth Institute at Columbia University-Millennium Villages project, $104,327 to The Susie Reizod Foundation’s project: New Shoes Donations to Children in Need in Catastrophe Areas of Africa and Asia, $687,500 to the Cambodian Muslim Community Development, Revolving Leadership Program; $500,000 to the Turquoise Mountain, Afghanistan; $766,848 to Leadership University College, Bangladesh; and a $1 million donation to The Right to Live Society (RLS). Moreover, a $235,282 donation to Oxfam’s project to Increase Market Access for Women in Senegal and donated $356,500 to Deworm the World Initiative. The initiative was presented by Young Global Leaders (YGL) Education Taskforce at the Davos World Economic Forum. HRH made a $360,000 donation to SOS Children’s Village in Indonesia and made a substantial emergency donation to Indonesia's flood victims. In 2006, HRH made a donation for the Yemen landslide victims and in the same year donated $1 million through the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) to the drought-ravaged people of Kenya. Other major donations made by HRH included $19 million to South East Asia's Tsunami victims, $830,000 donation to the families of the Egyptian train fire victims, 80 tons of supplies to the Algerian quake victims, $500,000 to Jammeh Foundation for Peace in The Gambia to fund a diagnostic center, one million Egyptian Pounds (LE) in support of Mrs. Susanne Mubarak campaign for the treatment of children suffering from cancer, $5 million to assist in the rescue and rebuilding efforts in the wake of floods in Morocco, $5 million to support the Carter Center Peace and Health programs in Africa, and the rebuilding of Zayzoon village in Syria after it was wiped by floods caused by the collapse of a dam. HRH’s philanthropic grants and donations over 60 countries ranging from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe; from Gaza to The Gambia, totaling more than $2.4 billion over the last 30 years. HRH has established three Foundations to handle his philanthropic activities across the globe under the slogan “Commitment Without Boundariesâ€: Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation in Saudi Arabia Alwaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation in Lebanon, and Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation in Lebanon. His foundations work locally, regionally and internationally to combat poverty, strengthen interfaith and intercultural dialogue and empower women and youth. Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation encourages and supports organizations, studies, and academic centers focusing on empowering Saudi women, alleviating poverty, upgrading services provided to the population, and other social infrastructure issues that face the country.
