Government Secures Major Fuel Boost to Keep Australia Moving 01/05/2026 (See translation in Arabic section) Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: The Albanese Labor Government has secured significant additional fuel supplies, including two shipments carrying 100 million litres of jet fuel and another shipment of 50 million litres of diesel, aimed at maintaining Australia’s transport and logistics networks. The three shipments will be delivered to Brisbane, Perth and Darwin, adding to eight previously announced shipments arranged in partnership with BP Australia, Ampol and Viva Energy. These earlier shipments are expected to arrive throughout May and June. In total, the Government has now secured more than 450 million litres of diesel and 100 million litres of jet fuel to help ensure supply stability during a period of global disruption. Under Strategic Reserve powers, efforts are also underway to secure fertiliser supplies, with ongoing discussions involving multiple industry partners to ensure essential resources reach key areas across the country. Further shipments are anticipated in the coming weeks as negotiations continue. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the Government was acting decisively to protect Australians from international instability. “My Government is working day and night, here and abroad, to shield Australians from the worst impacts of global conflict,” he said. “We have now secured more than 450 million litres of diesel and 100 million litres of jet fuel to keep Australia moving.” “In the face of global uncertainty, we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure Australia keeps working, moving and flying.” Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell said the additional supplies would support key industries and regional connectivity. “This fuel will keep FIFO workers flying, truck drivers on the road, and our nation moving,” he said. “It also gives Australians confidence to travel, reconnect with loved ones, and explore the country.” Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen highlighted the importance of collaboration with industry partners. “These additional shipments demonstrate strong cooperation between government and industry to secure vital fuel supplies,” he said. “We are acting now to strengthen supply chains and maintain essential services.” Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King said the move marked a key step for aviation security. “This is the first time jet fuel has been secured through the Strategic Reserve since the conflict began,” she said. “It provides certainty for airlines and helps keep passengers and freight moving across Australia.” The Government expects further updates as additional shipments are confirmed.
