Concept design endorsed for Duck River Nature Trail Stage 3

Sydney- Middle East Times Int’l: The vision for a continuous pedestrian and cyclist connection between Parramatta River and the M4 is a step closer to reality, with Council endorsing the concept design for Stage 3 of the Duck River Nature Trail.
The 4.5-kilometre trail is set to link communities in the south-east of Parramatta, improve access to open space and enhance the health of the Duck River corridor.
The updated proposal, which follows extensive community consultation, includes additional amenities such as seating, water bubblers, bike parking and bike repair stations, while maintaining separated walking and cycling paths along a majority of the trail and minimising impacts to the natural ecology.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the Duck River Nature Trail is a significant investment in the City’s future.
“This is a once-in-a-generation project and the single biggest investment by Council in walking and cycling. It will transform how people experience this important waterway, while improving connections between our neighbourhoods, parks and employment centres,” Cr Zaiter said.
"We asked the community for their feedback and we have listened. The result is a stronger design that responds directly to what residents told us was important.
“In particular, people told Council lighting the paths helped people feel safer when walking and riding, particularly in winter. Therefore, lighting is now included along the full alignment of the eastern foreshore.
“The strong community support for this project also demonstrates how important quality open spaces and active transport connections are to our growing city, and how safe people feel when they get to walk and ride away from traffic.”
When complete, the trail will provide improved pedestrian and cyclist connections in Silverwater, linking to the M4 Shared Path and Parramatta River foreshore.
The Duck River Nature Trail is funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Parramatta through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program and Transport for NSW's Get Active NSW program.
