War is not a Play New York César Chelala As bullets and missiles rain down on innocent people who eat dinner and watch the latest news, numbed by tragedy we become painfully aware that war is not a play. War is carnage, brutality and destruction. War is lost lives of women, children and the most defenseless. War is the killing and maiming soldiers who are not guilty of the perverse political games of their leaders. War is millions of displaced people and children denied a healthy future. War is the fattening of the rich and making poorer the poorest among us. War is those hurt by a merciless fate. War is the darkening of the skies that should be sunny for all. War is all this and even more. War is a devastation that defies words.
