Parents with kids in childcare

Parents with kids in childcare

In the last couple of weeks there have been several announcements about childcare. Much of it was welcome good news, but it appears that some childcare services will still be worse off.
I am still hearing from some childcare providers who believe they will have to close.
If you’ve had a child in childcare I strongly suggest you phone your child care provider, even if your child is currently home with you.
For example, until this morning Council childcare and preschools were in particular difficulty and Cumberland City Council had told parents it would close its 17 centres.
Fortunately, the state government stepped in this morning to assist Councils, and Cumberland has now announced that their centres will stay open.
Childcare funding is complex so I stress again, you should call our childcare provider about their situation and how that will affect your ability to have your child attend when you are ready.
If your childcare centre tells you that their viability is at risk, please ask them to email my office so I can take their matter up with the Minister.
We need our centres to survive, and we need our parents to know that there is a place waiting when they can return to work.
