OMAN: Duqm, Sohar, Salalah airports shine in 2017

The domestic airports of Duqm and Sohar have reported considerable progress in terms of passenger growth and flight movements this year. According to figures released by Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC), around 19,000 passengers through the Suhar airport through 236 flights from late June till the end of August.

Duqm airport saw the passenger traffic increase by 26.7 per cent from 16,330 travellers in 2016 to 20,528 passengers in 322 aircraft, an increase of 16.7 per cent from last year’s 276 flights.

Apart from Salam Air, Sohar Airport is also served by regional players Air Arabia and Qatar Airways.

Talks are underway for an Iranian’s airline to start operations from the city.

Qatar Airways plans to increase flights to Suhar from October 1. Duqm airport is served by the national airline Oman Air and a few chartered services .

Salalah Airport saw the passenger traffic increase by 25.3 per cent to over one million travellers in the first eight months of this year from 824,574 travellers for the same period last year.

The cargo traffic increased by 20.5 per cent to over 1 million kg from 915,427kg of cargo and mail during the same period.

It may be noted that the Muscat Airport has been growing that a steady ready compared to airports in Dubai and Doha.
