New Minister of Culture and Information in Saudi Arabia (Translation of this article appears in Arabic section) Dr. Adel Tarifi is the new Ministry of Culture and Information. Before this appointment he held a number of media positions, most recently as director of AL-Arabia. Dr. Adel Tarifi holds a PhD with honors in international relations in 2012 from the London School of Economics and Political Science for his thesis on The Saudi Arabia - Iranian relations between 1979 and 2009. He earned his master's degree in political science in 2007 from the University of London and a Master of Philosophy degree in economics and international politics in 2009, from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He received a Chevening British Fellowship scholarship and the award of best research on the subject of international disputes from the University of London in 2008. Adel Tarifi began his journalism more than ten years ago in Arab and foreign newspapers, as a writer and participant. He enrolled as weekly writer of political opinion in Riyadh newspaper, then moved onto writing weekly in the opinion pages of the Middle East newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. In 2010 he restructured a London magazine after moving from hardcopy and the launch of the electronic version. In July 2012 he assumed the role of magazine chief editor and also appointed deputy editor of Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. Dr. Tarifi was appointed chief editor of Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper from the first of January 2013, upon the approval of the Board of Directors and the endorsement of the Board of Trustees of the Saudi Research and Publishing Corporation. He was most recently appointed deputy director of Al-Arabia, and the last post prior to the Minister of Culture and Information, was Director of Al-Arabia Channel. |
