Programme to develop Oman’s digital media

27th, December 2014

MUSCAT — As part of BP Oman’s Social Investment Programmes, an interactive digital media programme was conducted at SAS Center for Virtual Reality (SAS VR), in collaboration with ASM Technologies LLC and in partnership with Injaz Oman and is part of their commitment to developing local capabilities in digital media.

Khalid al Kindi, Deputy General Manager of BP Oman, said, “BP Oman takes great interest in programmes that focus on energy sustainability in an innovative way. Supporting and educating Omani youth is part of our in-country value to develop Omanis for the workforce. I have visited the facility and interacted with the students during the programme. I was very impressed with the students’ dedication, energy and work quality.”

Earlier this month, a batch of 40 trainees graduated from the BP sponsored programme. With the support of BP Oman’s Wells HSE Site Lead, Abdullah al Maqimi, one of the trainee-groups developed a Rig Familiarisation Programme that utilises visualisation and immersive technology to enhance the safety and operations of the organisation.

A l Maqimi said, “The aim of the programme is to develop Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) content to support the training of local resources to meet the demands of BP Oman’s industry’s practices-requirements. It was a very practical and challenging experience for the students; especially as some students had the chance to visit one of BP’s rigs in Nizwa yard to collect field information to model and design different parts of the rigs.”

The trainees, who are Omani job-seekers, were trained on various content creation tools including Adobe Creative, Autodesk 3D Max and Virtual Reality Authoring Suite.

Over a period of three months, trainees developed proof of concept projects for targeted users and were tested on their proficiency and knowledge.
