La Trobe University building partnerships for a sustainable future

The Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman H.E Dr Hamed Ali Alawi and his delegation visited the Melbourne campus on the 15th of October and met with Professor John Dewar, Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Jane Long, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President, and Mr Tony Cranshaw, College Director, La Trobe Melbourne to strengthen the long standing relationship between La Trobe University and the office of the Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman, Melbourne.

The Sultanate of Oman Government provides generous scholarships through the Ministry of Higher Education to Omani students to have the opportunity to further their studies abroad in diverse areas covering: health science, business, economics, law, technology and humanities. La Trobe University has received over 180 students through this scholarship program sponsored by the Ministry of Higher education and also the Ministry of Health.

Over recent years, La Trobe University has developed strong relationships with the Consul General and his office, as well as the Ministries of Higher Education and other sponsor bodies.  The Sponsored Programs Team at La Trobe University, in conjunction with La Trobe Melbourne, is available to provide support to the sponsored students throughout their study period at La Trobe University, and an Arabic speaking member of staff at La Trobe International is available to support students with their needs.

The University values its relationship with the Consulate-General of the Sultanate of Oman, and together with La Trobe Melbourne look forward to welcoming the Consul General to its campuses again in the near future.
