MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER

2014 FESTIVAL OF EID AL-FITR

MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER

2014 FESTIVAL OF EID AL-FITR

I am pleased to provide this message to everyone who is celebrating the festival of Eid al-Fitr.

The new moon marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan for another year. This is an opportunity for Australian Muslims to come together to break the fast, rejoice and spend time with family and friends.

Eid al-Fitr festivals are as much a part of Australia as they are of countries around the world.

Religious freedom has always been a settled part of the Australian tradition. Different religious communities should respect each other. People of different faiths – and none – should respect each other.

Muslim Australians are an important part of an inclusive and cohesive Australia. Together, we are building a country which is a beacon of hope and optimism for people from right around the world.

I send you my best wishes for an enjoyable and peaceful celebration.

The Hon Tony Abbott MP

Prime Minister of Australia
