United Nations must act on China’s deadly and diseased exotic animal markets 03/04/2020 Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called on the UN-funded World Health Organisation to crack down on China’s diseased exotic animal markets after they reopened despite causing the global coronavirus pandemic. Tens of thousands of people have died and economies have jolted to a stop but the cause of coronavirus – China’s infamous wet markets – have been reopened by the communist party. Mr Morrison hit back at the dangerous cultural practice which experts have blamed for creating several viruses, including the killer COVID-19 through the sale of raw bat. “It is a very real and significant problem wherever they exist. This virus started in China and went around the world and that’s how it started ,we all know that, and these wet markets can be a real problem," he said. "From a world health point of view this is something that the World Health Organisation should do something about,” he told 2GB today. The World Health Organisation has repeatedly failed to criticise China for the wet markets. |
