GIRARD: 88% of Syrian Refugees Want to Return to Syria

21 Oct 2018

Lebanon - UNHCR Representative in Lebanon, Mireille Girard, revealed Sunday that 88% of Syrian refugees in Lebanon want to return to their country.

"The reason for making the refugees wait is not about the political settlement or reconstruction of Syria, but about practical obstacles to their property, identity papers and legal status in their homeland," Girard said at a roundtable organized by the 'Idrak' Association earlier today.

Girard said the displacement crisis was the result of armed conflicts, persecution and disasters that put families and communities under considerable social and psychological pressure.
