The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, congratulated the new Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, during a phone call on Saturday on his election as President of the Lebanese Republic, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
Mohammed bin Zayed expressed his wishes for Joseph Aoun’s success in leading Lebanon towards achieving the aspirations of its people for development and stability.
The UAE President affirmed his "aspiration to work together for the good and development of the two countries and their peoples and contribute to enhancing security and stability in the region, stressing the UAE's support for everything that guarantees Lebanon's security and stability and achieves the aspirations of its people for development," according to CNN.
The Emirati and Lebanese presidents agreed during the call "to take the necessary measures to reopen the UAE embassy in Beirut," according to "WAM."
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Mohammed bin Zayed informed Joseph Aoun that after the end of the presidential elections, the UAE decided "to reopen its embassy in Beirut, and that work will begin as soon as possible."
The two sides also discussed, during the call, "ways to enhance fraternal relations and joint cooperation between the two countries," according to "WAM."
For his part, the Lebanese President expressed his thanks to Mohammed bin Zayed and the good feelings he expressed towards Lebanon and its people, stressing his keenness to continue to consolidate relations between the two countries during the next stage, appreciating the UAE's supportive positions towards Lebanon at various levels.
