Sydney - Middle East Times Int’l: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday, Tuesday, that he ruled out that Hamas would leave Qatar, where it is headquartered, pointing out that he had also not seen any indications of that from Doha, according to what Reuters reported from Turkish media.
Media outlets quoted him as telling reporters during his return trip from his visit to Iraq that Israel's complete control over Gaza would "open the door" to more needs for the Palestinian territories.
The Wall Street Journal said in a report last week that the political leadership of the Hamas movement is considering the possibility of moving its headquarters outside Qatar. Arab sources also indicated to the newspaper that the movement’s leadership has contacted in recent days with at least two countries in the region, one of which is the Sultanate of Oman. , regarding whether they are open to the idea of their political leaders moving to their respective capitals, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
Hamas leaders have lived in Doha, the capital of Qatar, since 2012 in an arrangement supported by the United States.
The American newspaper reported that this comes with increasing pressure on Doha regarding its mediation regarding a truce in the Gaza Strip that includes the return of detainees.
