Sydney - Middle East Times Int’l: The Libyan authorities called on their Lebanese counterparts to release their citizen, Hannibal Gaddafi, who has been detained for more than 8 years, unconditionally, due to the lack of proven charges against him or the existence of the slightest evidence linking him to the case for which he is being detained.
The Libyan authorities' move came after photos were circulated in which Gaddafi's son appeared in a bad condition and detained in a narrow underground cell, and statements in which he complained about the conditions of his imprisonment without committing a crime.
The Libyan Ministry of Justice denounced his deprivation of the rights guaranteed by international conventions and treaties, calling on the Lebanese authorities to provide guarantees and applicable rights, including a place of detention, medical health care, visits, correspondence, and other rights that preserve his dignity and humanity.
The Ministry expressed its hope that the Libyan authorities will respond to their demands and receive responses from the concerned authorities indicating that the conditions of Hannibal Gaddafi’s detention will be improved, contrary to the current situation, stressing that it will continue to follow up this file with political parties and international and regional human rights organizations to ensure that the Libyan detainee obtains his rights and freedom.
