Sydney - Middle East Times Int’l: Australian police were able to kill a 16-year-old "extremist" after he injured a person in a knife attack in Western Australia, the state's premier and police said Sunday.
The Prime Minister of Western Australia, Roger Cook, said in press statements: The teenager armed with a knife “rushed” towards police officers and a policeman shot him, killing him, explaining that there are indications that he has become extremist online. "But I want to reassure the public that at this point it appears he acted alone."
Police received a call late Saturday from a person warning that he would commit “acts of violence,” but without mentioning his name or location, State Police Commissioner Cole Blanche told the press. Within minutes, another emergency call alerted police that a person “male "Carrying a knife he was running around a car park" in Williton, a southern suburb of Perth.
According to the police chief, police camera images showed that the teenager refused the officers’ demands to put the knife down. The police officers used two electric stun guns, but “both of them did not have the full desired effect,” he said.
The police official added that the teenager "continued to advance towards an officer who fired one bullet and fatally wounded him," noting that the teenager died in the hospital later.
