Independence Day Celebrations

On Sunday 22 November Council, together with the St George Joint Lebanese Committee, will raise Lebanon’s national flag in the Council forecourt to celebrate the national Lebanese Day of Independence.

The Mayor of the City of Rockdale, Councillor Shaoquett Moselmane is inviting the City’s community to join in the celebrations of Lebanon’s most significant day.

“Sadly, decades of turmoil in their home country forced many Lebanese residents to flee and find refuge in countries like Australia. Here in Rockdale we have a significant and vast Lebanese community that has added to the diverse cultural tapestry of our City.

“Raising the Lebanese flag on 22 November is a just a small way we can rally round our Australian-Lebanese residents to celebrate their origins and reflect on their wonderful heritage. I invite all Rockdale residents to the Council forecourt to help us rejoice with our Australian-Lebanese friends.

“Flag raising ceremonies are essential in recognising the many cultures and nations that make up our City. This Council is committed to fostering the memories and traditions of all our residents who have come to Australia from all corners of globe to call Rockdale home,” the Mayor said.

The flag raising ceremony will take place in the Council administration building forecourt at

2 Bryant Street
Rockdale, from 10.30am, Sunday 22 November.
