KUWAIT-- The Information Ministry has completed all arrangements to cover the National Assembly (parliament) elections due Saturday, a senior official sastressed.

The major aim is to provide full coverage of the democratic event, delivering an elevated media message, the Information Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for News and Political Programs Mohammad Bader bin Naji said in a press statement on Friday.

Bin Naji who is also deputy chief of the committee on the preparation for the media coverage of the elections, added that they also aim to put the Kuwaitis, at home and overseas, 'at the heart of the event' with live TV and radio broadcast, and also via the e-media, from the state's five constituencies.

As a part of the efforts to present a distinct media coverage, the ministry has updated the TV direct transmission on its website, www.media.gov.kw, and the news website, www.news.gov.kw, he noted.

In addition, the ministry has updated its direct TV application on smart phones so that users can follow the elections moment-by-moment. This is also available on the ministry's official accounts on social networking, he said.

The ministry's strategy for the coverage of the parliamentary elections has been set to consolidate values of national loyalty and belonging, holding the nation's interests over and above all other considerations, he stressed.

A media campaign themed 'My vote for the nation' has been launched and specialized teams have been formed promote the event, he said.

The Ministry of Information's preparations for the major political and democratic event are not confined to the polling day, but actually they started since the former assembly was dissolved by an Amiri Decree earlier in October, he said.

This has been conducted through a comprehensive plan shedding light on the importance of popular participation in the elections, in cooperation with the relevant government bodies.

The plan has sought to highlight the democratic life in Kuwait, highly appreciated worldwide, he stated.

Saturday will be a 'Kuwaiti media day par excellence' to reiterate the capability of the country's media to respond to national occasions, with full professionalism, and high skills, bin Naji said.

He promised TV viewers, and radio listeners a direct detailed non-stop coverage of the elections through the day.

Bin Naji said that studios at the media complex are connected with the ones at the five constituencies. Also, all the polling stations have been provided with adequate tools of direct broadcast.

KUWAIT-- No effort will be spared to depict a favorable and democratic image of Kuwait through extensive coverage of parliamentary elections due Saturday, Director General of the Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Manfouhi said on Thursday.

In a statement, Al-Manfouhi, who also heads a joint Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Municipal committee dealing with the 2016 parliamentary elections, noted that thorough and neutral coverage of the vote will be instrumental in showcasing a civil and democratic image of Kuwait.

In addition, Al-Manfouhi spoke of precautions taken by the MoI, including strategies to ensure food safety, adding that some 5,953 illicit advertisements have been removed.

He also underscored the continuous cooperation between the MoI and the Municipality to make sure that all procedures are in place.

Heo lauded the committee's work for enforcing the rule of law, saying that he is optimistic that a true democratic spectacle will unfold on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Interior, Justice and Education, in addition to municipal officials.

KUWAIT-- The media figures and delegations in Kuwait to cover the parliamentary elections due in two days' time, on Thursday visited the National Assembly (parliament) building.

The delegations were acquainted with the leading role of Kuwait's legislative institution.

On arrival, they were received by the National Assembly's Assistant Secretary General for the Media Sector Abul-Hakim Al-Basty, who offered them detailed account of the nature of wok inside the building, and the major services provided there.

They also visited the Sabah Al-Ahmad Building, opened by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah earlier this year, including the members' offices and the information.

In addition, the delegations were offered a documentary on the major events of the political and democratic life in Kuwait after the independence, shedding light on the achievements realized under His Highness the Amir.

They also visited the Abdullah Al-Salim Hall.

During the tour, the delegations were briefed on the facilities the Assembly offers to the media, including the integrated media center of the parliament's channel, and a studio for interviews with the MPs, which is equipped with the latest technology, offering satellite communication for channels willing to provide live coverage from inside the building.

KUWAIT-- The Ministry of Information has provided all possible facilities for the media figures and delegation, and journalists visiting to cover the National Assembly elections due on Saturday, said Minister Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah. This aims to help them report the elections to their media institutions as smoothly as ever, Sheikh Salman, who is also of State for Youth Affairs, told a dinner banquette in honor of the visiting media guests from Gulf, Arab and foreign channels and news outlets.

Sheikh Salman highly appreciated the vital role of the media, for showing the bright image of democracy in Kuwait, shedding light on the various development achievements in Kuwait. He wished them a pleasant stay.

Gov't official expects higher voter turnout in '16 elections

KUWAIT-- Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for National Assembly Affairs' Research and Information System Department Dr. Ahmad Al-Haifi predicted on Thursday a higher voter turnout for the parliamentary elections due on Saturday.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's decision to refer to the people to selcet their representatives, is a milestone in the history of the nation, Al-Haifi said.

He added that the Ministry of Information (MoI) has thoroughly covered all events in the run up to the elections, which will prove instrumental in ensuring a higher voter turnout.

Meanwhile, December 2012's elections featured the lowest voter turnout with 39.6 percent while 1992's elections had the highest voter turnout with 84 percent, followed by elections in 1996 with 82.6 percent and elections in 1999 and 2003 with 80.7 percent.
