The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) is pleased to announce that his eminence Dr. Ibrahim Abu Mohamed has been elected as the new Grand Mufti of Australia.

ANIC held its Annual General Meeting 20 10/11 on Saturday the 17 h September 2011. Imams representing Council of Imams from all states in Australia have congregated in Melbourne for a daylong meeting.

Outgoing Grand Mufti of Australia his eminence Imam Fehmi Naji El-lmam has issued a letter indicating that he would like to step down from his position as Grand Mufti of Australia due to his poor health recently.

ANIC General Assembly Members and the Fatwa Committee members unanimously agreed to appoint his eminence Dr. lbrahim Abu Mohamed as the new Grand Mufti of Australia.

Egyptian born Dr. Ibrahim Abu Mohamed is a graduate of AI Azhar University - one of the oldest Universities in the world- with PHD in Islamic Studies. He has authored many books about Islam and contemporary issues.

Dr. lbrahim Abu Mohamed lives in Sydney NSW. We wish him all the best in his endeavours to serve all Australian community through the office of Grand Mufti of Australia.
