Jordan blasts Israeli decision to build 2,300 housing units

08/08/2019

AMMAN-- Jordan on Thursday denounced a recent Israeli decision to build 2,300 more settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi, in a press statement, condemned the Israeli move as a new deplorable illegal step that requires a decisive international stand to pressure Israel to stop its practices that undermine peace efforts.

He underlined that settlement activities and demolition of Palestinian homes undermine peace efforts and chances.

The Jordanian foreign minister called on the international community to press Israel to halt its unilateral practices that strengthen occupation but kill the peace process.

Israel had advanced plans to build 2,300 settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

The plans were approved by the High Planning Committee of the Israeli Civil Administration, a body responsible for authorizing settlement building.
