STATEMENT: ANTHONY ALBANESE MP PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA 25/04/2025 (See translation in Arabic section) Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: 110 years ago today, Australian and New Zealand troops landed on the beaches of Gallipoli under heavy fire, in the battle that would begin the Anzac legend. Little did they know, their story would shape both our nations for generations to come. This morning, all around our nation, and at locations all around the world, we gathered before dawn to honour the memory of the first Anzacs and every generation that has followed them in the service of Australia. This morning I was proud to once again be at the Australian War Memorial. I have had no greater pride as Prime Minister than being at the Isurava memorial on the Kokoda Track on Anzac Day one year ago. What occurred at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance and King's Park in Perth was a disgrace. There is no place in Australia for what occurred. The disruption of Anzac Day is a disgraceful act and the people responsible must face the full force of the law. Â This was an act of low cowardice on a day when we honour courage. Anzac Day is when we come together to remember all those who have served our country in war and the cause of peace. As our nation comes together in gratitude, we reiterate our commitment to providing the care, support, and recognition our veterans and their families deserve. We honour all whom have volunteered, sacrificed and died for our nation, including indigenous Australians. The words that matter today are the simple and sacred promise Australians repeated in their millions. Lest we forget. |
