NSW Labor Delivers Major Boost for Granville with New Parklands, Children’s Hospital and Cost-of-Living Support

Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: The NSW Labor Government has announced a series of major initiatives benefiting residents across the Granville electorate, including the protection of 28 hectares of parkland along the Duck River Corridor, the opening of the new Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and expanded support to help households reduce energy costs.
The package of investments aims to improve community infrastructure, healthcare, environmental sustainability and cost-of-living relief for families across Granville, Auburn, South Granville and Guildford.
28 Hectares Protected Along Duck River
In a significant environmental and community milestone, the NSW Government will transfer 28 hectares of surplus public land along the Duck River Corridor from the Office of Strategic Lands to Cumberland Council.
The land will be permanently protected as public open space, fulfilling key objectives of Cumberland Council’s Duck River Parkland Masterplan 2022.
The transfer brings together previously fragmented land parcels under a single ownership, enabling coordinated planning, ecological restoration and uninterrupted public access along the length of the river corridor.
The project will create a continuous regional parkland linking the Auburn Botanic Gardens with sporting facilities, community spaces and important Aboriginal cultural heritage sites, while improving walking and cycling connections throughout the area.
The initiative is expected to transform the Duck River into a cleaner, greener and more accessible recreational destination for local families and future generations.

New Children’s Hospital Opens at Westmead
Families across Western Sydney are also set to benefit from the official opening of the new $659.1 million Wattle Building (Wadanguli) at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
The purpose-built facility represents one of the largest investments in paediatric healthcare in New South Wales and has been designed to provide world-class care closer to home.
The new building features expanded surgical services, additional operating theatres, specialist cardiology and radiology laboratories, dedicated neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, expanded cancer treatment facilities, a statewide burns service, and advanced pharmacy services equipped with robotic medication dispensing technology.
The hospital is expected to reduce waiting times, improve access to specialist treatment, and provide a more comfortable environment for children and their families during hospital stays.
Energy Savings for Local Households
The NSW Government has also expanded cost-of-living assistance through its $557 million
Home Energy Saver Program.
Eligible households can access interest-free loans of up to $15,000 to install solar panels, home batteries, insulation, reverse-cycle air conditioning, ceiling fans and draught-proofing measures.
Later in 2026, eligible low-income households, concession card holders and renters will also be able to receive rebates of up to $4,000 for approved energy-saving upgrades.
The program is designed to help families lower household energy bills while improving home comfort and reducing emissions.
Community Engagement Continues
Residents are also being encouraged to participate in an online community survey to provide feedback on local and statewide issues.
In addition, the Granville electorate office continues to assist residents with a broad range of state government services, including education, hospitals, public transport, housing, roads, policing, Fair Trading, family services and cost-of-living support.
The latest announcements reflect the NSW Government’s continued investment in Western Sydney through improved public spaces, modern healthcare infrastructure and practical assistance aimed at supporting local families and strengthening community wellbeing.
