BEIRUT-- Planeloads of Kuwaiti aid continued to pour into Lebanon on Monday almost a week after a catastrophic port explosion sparked a tide of destruction that tore through its capital Beirut.

Two planes carrying 100 tonnes of urgent supplies landed in Beirut to bring the total of aid-laden aircrafts to have flown into the ravaged city to nine so far, Abdullah Al-Shaheen, an advisor at Kuwaitآ’s embassy in Lebanon, told KUNA.

Kuwait was among the first countries to have sent aid to Lebanon in the wake of a powerful blast in port warehouses near central Beirut, which wrought destruction across swathes of the Mediterranean city.

An international donor conference just a day earlier raised pledges worth nearly USD 298 million for a country that had already been in the throes of economic collapse prior to Tuesdayآ’s tragic blast.
