Liberals Vote Against M4 Cashback: A ‘Betrayal’ of Western Sydney

Western Sydney Liberal MPs have voted down a motion to support the return of the M4 Cashback in NSW Parliament today.

The M4 Cashback is an opportunity to provide real relief to Western Sydney motorists who have been hit hard with and extra $2,000 a year in tolls, rising at double the rate of inflation. The motion read:

“This House calls on the Berejiklian Government to include the widened M4 under

the Cashback program.”

The Liberals did not stand up for Western Sydney motorist and voted it down.

Tomorrow [Wednesday, 15 August 2018] marks the one year anniversary since the Berejiklian Government reintroduced a toll on the M4 that will last until 2060.

The vote comes just days after the Labor State Opposition revealed that 50 million tolls had been issued in the first year of the new M4 toll, raising approximately $235 million.

Analysis of the toll revenue reveals that the minor M4 widening works will be paid off by the end of next year but motorists will be slugged a toll for 43 years.

NSW Labor is vowing to return the Cashback on the M4.

Quotes attributable to NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley

“Western Sydney motorists will be paying the unfair toll for decades – not to pay off the M4, but to pay off Premier Berejiklian’s Northern Beaches tunnel.

“This week is an unhappy anniversary for motorists in Sydney’s west – and they’ll be paying that unfair toll on the M4 until 2060.

“Only Labor will bring back the M4 Cashback.”
