Trump defends 'racist' tweets targeting female congresswomen

16/07/2019

Donald Trump is defending his online attack against a group of female minority congresswomen, denying his outburst was fuelled by racism. The US President has faced a barrage of criticism for his tweets, in which he told four Democrats to ‘go back and fix the crime-infested places from which they came’. Three of the four women were born in the United States, while the fourth is a US citizen who arrived in the country as a refugee, when she was a child. The four congresswomen have rejected Mr Trump’s comments as ‘divisive’, with one describing them as ‘a disruptive distraction from real issues’.
