I'm running for PM, not Pope: Morrison

15/05/2019

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has unleashed on Labor leader Bill Shorten, accusing him of trying to score political points on his religious views. When Mr Morrison, who is Christian, was asked if he thought gay people went to hell, he said ‘it’s not my view that that’s the case’ and urged his opponents against using religion as a political weapon. He said he was running to be Australia’s Prime Minister not the Pope, adding that theological questions should be left at the door. The Prime Minister is campaigning in Tasmania where he hopes to win over Bass and Braddon, where incumbent Labor MP Ross Hart holds the seat with a margin of 1.7 per cent and is believed to be deeply unpopular.
