KUWAIT-- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced Monday the distribution of food baskets to needy people in 15 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East during Ramadan.

The aid campaign would benefit up to 100,000 people, KRCS Chairman Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer said in statements to KUNA.

"Kuwait is playing a prominent and increasing role in providing relief assistance to various countries facing humanitarian crises and natural disasters," he said.

Al-Sayer noted that the aid would be doled out to people in Mauritania, Uganda, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Benin, Palestine, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Yemen, Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Comoros and Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.

He thanked volunteers for helping in food baskets distributions.

Al-Sayer noted that the crisis of refugees and displaced persons represents a global challenge, stressing that the humanitarian response should be a collective action for nations and peoples, adding that the Red Crescent takes into account the humanitarian aspect of supporting needy people, reducing poverty and building development projects.
