Sultan Al Qasimi renames Sharjah Media Centre SHARJAH, 13th February, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree renaming Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) to Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB). Emiri Decree No (8) of 2017 amends Emiri Decree No (33) of 2012 pertaining to the reorganisation of Sharjah Media Centre. The new decree stipulates that the text of Article (2) of Emiri Decree (33) of 2012 be substituted with the following text: A media office under the name Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) shall be established. The new office shall enjoy an independent legal, financial and administrative personality to duly act to achieve the objectives for which it has been established. SGMB will be the official media source for the Government of Sharjah. Texts of Articles (3) and (8) of clause (5) of the Emiri Decree No (33) of 2012 will be substituted with: 1- Preparing and organising all media events associated with the Ruler of Sharjah, the Crown Prince, Ruler’s Deputies, the Executive Council or its representative, and providing various media outlets with their news. 2- Any other specialisations referred to it by the Ruler, the Executive Council or Sharjah Media Council The decrees also state that two new clauses will be added to Article (5) of the Emiri Decree No (33) of 2012; they are: 1- The SGMB is considered the main media reference to all institutions operating in the Emirate of Sharjah for broadcasting news in the state of crises and emergency. 2- Establishing and developing legible media means. This decree is effective from the date of its issuance and all concerned and competent authorities should implement its provisions each according to its field of specialisation. The Decree also annuls all rules that contradict its provisions, and shall be published in the Official Gazette. |
