NATO chief, NAC to visit Kuwait next week

BRUSSELS-- At the invitation of the Kuwaiti authorities, the North Atlantic Council on level of permanent representatives chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will visit Kuwait on 23 and 24 January, NATO announced in a statement Friday.

It noted that Stoltenberg and NATO Ambassadors will attend an inauguration ceremony at the NATO Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Regional Centre in Kuwait City.

During his visit, the NATO chief is scheduled to have meetings with His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah and the President of the Kuwait National Security Bureau Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah, it ntoed.

A meeting of the North Atlantic Council with senior representatives of the four ICI partner countries will follow the ceremony, with the participation of the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and representatives of the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The ICI which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE was launched in Istanbul in 2004 to develop security and defence cooperation between the four Arab Gulf states and NATO.
