A Community Celebration of Public Service is to be held to honour former Deputy Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas who retired from the NSW Police Force earlier this year.

The Chair of the Organising Committee, former Member of Parliament Charles Casuscelli said " Such was the esteem in which Nick Kaldas was held across all communities that I was compelled to ask a number of prominent community leaders to come together and plan an event to recognise 34 years of exemplary service to the people of NSW"

"Nick Kaldas has been a champion of our multi-cultural communities and has been a voice of re-assurance during times when our communities came under threat from criminals and intolerance. There has not been a more passionate advocate, nor a more unifying leader in the service of our community"

"The media in NSW has often commented that "Kaldas is one of the most decorated and well-credentialed officers in recent NSW Police history" and that Kaldas was "the best Police Commissioner NSW never had", the Organising Committee agrees.

"Governments from all sides of politics owe him a debt of gratitude that is yet to be paid, we can do nothing less than for our diverse communities representing many cultures from across the world to come together to demonstrate that we recognise his service, that we are grateful for his dedication and we celebrate with him on his achievements" Mr Casuscelli said.

Dr Stepan Kerkyasharian AO, former Chair of the Community Relations Commission said "Nick Kaldas is a man of honour and of service, he understands multi-cultural NSW like no other public servant".

Mr Joe Rizk AOM, Chairman and CEO of the Arab Bank said "The Egyptian community in NSW should be very proud that one of its sons rose to such a senior position in the NSW Police Force.

Mr Dong Dong Yang, Chairman China Business Summit Inc. said "Nick Kaldas is one of the best police officers in Australia always helping ethnic communities especially the Chinese community very much"

Ms Namhee Ko, said "The Korean community thanks Mr Kaldas for his devotion, care and compassion for the people of NSW, especially his exceptional kindness to ethnic communities".
