WASHINGTON-- The Asia-Pacific group at the UN showcased desire to support Kuwait's bid for the Asian group's non-permanent seat at the UNSC in 2018-19, said a Kuwaiti diplomat late Friday.

Kuwait's permanent delegate to the UN headquarters in New York Mansour Al-Otaibi told KUNA that his country was grateful for this gesture of support ahead of the UNSC Asia seat election which will be held in June 2017.

Regional and international groups like the Gulf Cooperation Council, Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and others expressed their support and for that Kuwait is thankful, said the diplomat.

Kuwait occupied a UN seat previously in 1978-1979.
