OMAN: Tourism investment discussed with Russian delegation

27th, April 2016

MUSCAT: Ahmed bin Nassir Al Mehrzi, Omani Minister of Tourism, received a delegation of Russian-Oman Business Council yesterday headed by Ivan Menshikov in the presence of Russian Ambassador to the Sultanate and Ali Tabouk, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Duqm Free Trade Zone, and Ministry of Tourism officials. The parties discussed the various areas of investment and shared their expertise in the tourism sector. They also discussed the unique investment opportunities in Oman, given the country’s strategic location and its natural, historical and cultural heritage that attracts tourists from all over the world.

The head of the delegation also expressed his desire in enhancing the cooperation between the Sultanate and the Republic of Russia in all sectors, particularly in tourism to mutually benefit both nations. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the efforts being taken by the Sultanate in order to develop tourism. The tourism development plan places utmost importance on quality as the foremost aspect of all tourism products and services, which at the same time should reflect the uniqueness of Oman and bring to the fore the authentic Omani identity. Another important aspect of the plan is the focus on maintaining and enriching the biological and geographical diversity of the country.

The minister also highlighted the Oman Tourism Strategy 2040 that is based on the principle of creating a responsible and sustainable tourism sector that will serve all other sectors within the country. The two parties stressed the importance of such meetings as it benefits both countries by building closer relations. The meeting also emphasised the need to avail the opportunities in both countries and utilise expertise that each nation brings to the table in order to strengthen cooperation on the tourism front. At the end of the meeting, souvenirs were exchanged as a token of appreciation.
