GCC to develop and promote inter-tourism

DOHA: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, participated in the concluding meeting of the second session of the GCC Tourism Ministers held in Doha yesterday.

Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, led the Sultanate’s delegation to the meeting.

The meeting discussed strengthening joint cooperation between the GCC countries in the tourist areas and focusing on integration in the aspects of tourism development and the promotion of inter-tourism.

It also discussed topics for activating inter-tourism between the GCC countries, through revitalisation of initiatives that contribute to the promotion and development of

tourism exchange between Member States.

On the other hand, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of tourism was signed between the Government of the Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Tourism and the Qatari government, represented by the Qatar Tourism Authority.

The MoU was signed by Al Mehrzi on the part of the Sultanate, and from the Qatar side by Isa bin Mohammed al Mahanadi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority.

The MoU comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation, continuation to develop and strengthen cooperation in the field of tourism between the two countries, and in awareness by both sides of the importance of the tourism sector as an effective element in promoting economic development through cultural and social exchanges.

The Memo provides for the formation of a technical committee of specialists in the field of tourism from both countries. It aims to put an executive program for tourism cooperation between the two countries and to follow up the implementation of the memo articles. The Committee shall hold regular meetings annually alternately in both countries.
