Oman, Russia sign MoU on museums

MOSCOW: Oman and Russia signed in the City of St Petersburg yesterday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the National Museum in the Sultanate and the Russian Hermitage Museum on the museum work, training services and vocational rehabilitation.

The signing came during a visit by His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tareq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, and his delegation to the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg within the framework of the current official visit of HH Sayyid Haitham to Russia.

During his visit, the minister met Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director-General of the Hermitage Museum, and his assistant for research and studies, where they discussed the frameworks of the rules and principles of cooperation between the sides in connection with the development activities in the field of museums of common interest and strengthen the relationship through joint cooperation by the exchange of experiences and the development of museums in the long run. The Russian side hosted a reception on the sidelines of the signing of the MoU in honour of HH Sayyid Haitham and his delegation.

HH Sayyid Haitham met during the ceremony with the trainees of the National Museum and visitor services, and listened to a briefing on methods and stages of training.

He and his delegation visited the Peterhof Palaces Complex, a World Heritage Site according to the Unesco,

Jamal bin Hassan al Moussawi, Director of the National Museum, signed the MoU from the Omani side, while Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director-General of the Hermitage Museum, signed for the Russian side. Following the signing of the memorandum, a presentation was provided on the National Museum in the Sultanate to the Russian media, followed by a press conference between the Omani and Russian sides.
