The vacuum in Presidency confirms the lack of responsibility among politicians

The vacuum in Presidency confirms the lack of responsibility among politicians: "Liberal Democrats" Party

The Political Council of the "Liberal Democrats" Party held its weekly meeting chaired by Tracy Chamoun and discussed the developments. They issued the following statement:

Firstly: The "Liberal Democrats" Party reiterates its regret for the passage of 188 days in the vacuum in the Presidency of the Republic. This confirms the lack of responsibility among politicians and their over investment in their personal agendas.

This lack of irresponsibility also applies to the Committee for The Electoral Law, with its members still clinging to their positions thereby destroying any hope for change in the present configuration of Parliament, especially since they are required to come up with a law that guarantees fair representation - Such as is the case in most developed countries of the world. In Lebanon, this can be achieved by adopting an electoral system based on proportional representation and large constituencies.

Secondly, the Party considers that the question of the military abductees, four months into their abduction, is a national humanitarian issue, and believes that the State has made a grave mistake by allowing the kidnappers to communicate directly with the families of the victims. This has facilitated their manipulation and the imposition of the terrorists’ conditions on them and the government. Therefore, the Party calls the State to re-take the initiative and deal with this issue exclusively, so as to ensure the safety of the kidnapped and work more effectively on their release.

Thirdly, The members of the Council praised Minister Wael Abu Faour in his mission to secure food safety after the actions of this industry’s mafia have affected this vital sector, by creating an immanent to the health of all citizens. They affirm their support to him, and ask him to address the issue of the renewal of permits for government hospitals to improve their services.

Fourthly: The Political Council expresses its sorrow and condolences for the loss of the legend Sabah, this, following a long history of giving Lebanon a rich, artistic and cultural, national legacy. President Camille Chamoun greatly admired the late star. She always showed selfless courage and national pride when Lebanon was subjected to its most difficult and dangerous years. Though she has left us, her songs remain at the heart of Lebanon and its army, and they continue to reflect an image of beauty and love.
