Oman to take part in World Investment Forum

MUSCAT — Assigned by His Majesty the Sultan, Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and his accompanying delegation yesterday headed to Geneva to take part in the World Investment Forum which opens today. The minister said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the World Investment Forum is one of the events of UNCTAD Summit, one of the most important world forums that discusses the comprehensive policies and development on the highest level. He pointed out that the forum will gather investment companies to discuss the challenges before sustainable development and the political solutions that will achieve the aims of development.

He added that the Forum will gather senior officials and businessmen from the different parts of the world to discuss investment challenges and its status quo, in addition to the different aspects related to financial, capital market and government sectors. They will also discuss the expansion witnessed by the cities in the different parts of the world and the private public partnership (PPP) in sustainable development in the coming period.

He also said that on the sidelines of his participation at the Summit he will meet with a number of officials at the UNCTAD and other organizations. The Omani delegation will also take part in a number of specialized sessions and roundtable discussions that will discuss development strategies, the financial and private sectors policies and roles in sustainable development, as well as the relationship between capital markets and economic growth.

The Minister of Commerce and Industry will be accompanied during the visit by Sayyid Dr Fahd bin al Julanda al Said, Assistant Secretary- General for Innovation Development at The Research Council (TRC), and Ambassador Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Zahir al Hinai, Head of the WTO Department at the Foreign Ministry, in addition to a number of officials from the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Minister of Commerce and Industry was seen off by Ahmed bin Sulaiman al Maimani, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative, Financial and Estates Affairs and a number of officials at the Ministry.
