Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan takes part in China-Arab States Cooperation Forum meeting

Beijing: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, participated in the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) which Chinese President Xi Jinping opened yesterday in Beijing.

During a meeting with the heads of Arab delegations to the forum, President Xi Jinping announced China's donation of US$16 million in humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon.

The Chinese president also announced US$9.6 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

In his keynote speech at the forum, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, "China firmly supports the Middle East peace process. China supports the establishment of an independent state of Palestine with full sovereignty that is based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. China hoped the parties concerned will adopt concrete measures to remove obstacles for peace talks and break the stalemate as soon as possible." The Chinese president added, "China respects the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people. China supports an early implementation of the Geneva Communiqué to begin an inclusive political transition and achieve a political settlement of the Syrian issue. China is following closely Syria's humanitarian situation and will provide additional batch of humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon." Voicing China's support for the establishment of a Middle East nuclear-weapon-free zone, President Xi said, "China opposed any attempt to change the political landscape in the Middle East." "China will play a constructive role in regional affairs. China will speak up for justice and work with Arab states to encourage dialogue as a way to find the greatest common denominator on issues of concern to all parties, and provide more public goods for the proper settlement of regional hotspot issues." The agenda of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) includes global issues such as terrorism as a global threat, the international community's anti-terrorism efforts, fighting poverty, the developments of the Palestinian issue and the crisis in Syria, efforts to reform United Nations and Security Council, as well as efforts to strengthen inter-cultural and interfaith dialogue.
