PREMIER WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF
GENERAL PETER COSGROVE AS GOVERNOR-GENERAL

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell today welcomed the appointment of General Peter Cosgrove AC MC as Australia’s next Governor-General.
“General Cosgrove is a fantastic appointment and a person who will discharge his duties with dignity and dedication,” Mr O’Farrell said.
“General Cosgrove has spent his life serving this country and in his role as Governor-General this service will continue to our nation’s benefit.
“As a former Australian of the Year, Chief of the Defence Force, and head of the recovery taskforce following North Queensland’s Cyclone Larry, General Cosgrove has shown great commitment to this country.
“This appointment has the added benefit of meaning we are lucky to gain the service of General Cosgrove’s wife Lynne who is a tremendous partner,” he said
General Cosgrove was Chair of the NSW Centenary of Anzac Advisory Council, a position he has now resigned. A replacement will be named shortly.
