Rahi: Adopt policy of ‘No West, no East’

August 31, 2013

DIMAN, Lebanon: The Maronite patriarch said Friday that Lebanon should return to its National Pact and adopt a policy of “no West, no East” to deal with political and other challenges faced by the country. “We have strayed from this National Pact, this pact of coexistence between Muslims and Christians,” Rahi told a group of judges who visited him at Diman, Bsharri.

The patriarch said it was unacceptable for Lebanon’s political life to be subject to the state of relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, urging a return to the “National Pact, which stipulates that Lebanon follow neither West nor East,” Rahi said.
