“NSW Liberals will implement Gonski reforms to deliver an extra $5 billion for NSW schools”, said Tony Issa State Member for Granville.

“NSW is the first Australian State to agree to the Gonski national education reforms and this is great news for Granville electorate students, teachers and parents.  It will mean more resources, a fairer system and higher standards, and as a result a better education for our children”.

“The NSW Government has determined that the reforms were in the best interest of NSW students, parents and teachers, and has identified the $1.7 billion in savings needed to fund the state government’s share of the reforms”, Mr Issa continued.

“The ‘Gonski’ agreement builds on the NSW Government’s education reforms.  This includes:

Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan to raise standards in the basic building

blocks of education

Great Teaching, Inspired Learning to lift the performance of the teaching profession

Local Schools, Local Decisions to empower principals and school communities to

Make decisions based on the needs of the local school and students; and

Increasing the number of teachers in our schools with an additional 520 employed

since the election

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for NSW schools”, Mr Issa added.

“I am proud of this historic reform which could not have been achieved without the advocacy of local students, teachers and parents and will deliver a world-class education system in NSW.”

“For further information, please contact the electorate office on 96371656”, Mr Issa concluded.
