Abdullah bin Zayed meets Zambian President
Lusaka: The President of Zambia, Michael Chilufya Sata, yesterday received United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the presidential palace in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
Sheikh Abdullah is currently on a three-nation tour of Africa.
The UAE Foreign Minister conveyed to President Sata the greetings of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his desire to strengthen relations between the two countries in all fields.
In response, the Zambian President asked Sheikh Abdullah to convey his greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa as well as his best wishes for further progress and prosperity for the people of the UAE, under his wise leadership.
President Sata also expressed his appreciation at Sheikh Abdullah's visit, which he described as being important, adding that he hoped it would lead to fruitful results in terms of the development of bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.
During the meeting, President Sata and Sheikh Abdullah discussed bilateral relations and also exchanged views on a number of issues of regional and international importance.
The UAE Foreign Minister also met separately with the Zambian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Emmanuel Chenda, the Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Development, Yamfwa Mukanga, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Effron Chakupa Lungu. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
Geneva: The Permanent Representative of the UAE at the United Nations in Geneva Obaid Salim Al Za'abi UAE highlighted the tragic conditions of Palestinian children who suffer from malnutrition, arrest, forced displacement and aggression in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPTs).
Citing recent reports by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, and the Fact-finding Mission on Israeli Settlements in the , Al Za'abi urged for immediate international action to protect Palestinian children.
He made his remarks at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council meeting, as part of its 22nd session which runs between 25 February - 22 March 2013 in Geneva.
He attributed the tragic conditions of Palestinian children to the Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories and its settlement policy which is destroying all members of the Palestinian society including children, women and old people.
The UAE representative urged the international community to assimilate the fact that the future of Palestinian children and their natural growth is not possible without giving them their full rights in a free and independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
Jakarta: Sultan Mohammed Al Ali, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, has presented his credentials to Secretary-General of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Le Luong Minh as UAE Ambassador to the Southeast Asian regional organisation.
The UAE diplomat conveyed to Mr. Minh the regards of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, and Dr Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Relations between the UAE and the ASEAN member states in economic, trade and investment sectors were also discussed. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
Al Maktoum Charity Foundation, in the presence of UAE Ambassador to Afghanistan Yousuf Saif Subaa Al Ali, has distributed aid to Women's Shelter in Kabul in Kabul as part of its charitable and humanitarian programmme to assist the needy segments in Afghanistan.
The Foundation gave out assistance in coordination with the UAE embassy in Afghanistan and under the supervision of the Permanent Committee for Humanitarian and Development Assistance in Afghanistan.
UAE ambassador hailed the role the philanthropic organisation plays in Afghanistan, especially in providing support for the needy people, stressing that the humanitarian assistance extended by Al Maktoum Foundation was welcomed with appreciation and thanks from the Afghani people. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
Kabul: The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation has handed out in-kind assistance to Afghan orphans at Tehya Orphanage in Kabul.
The Foundation's assistance was delivered to the orphanage in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Afghanistan, in presence of Sayyid Abdullah Hashemi, director of Afghanistan's orphanages and the UAE Ambassador Yousef Saif Seb'a Al Ali, and was overseen by the Permanent Humanitarian and Development Aid in Afghanistan.
Al Hashemi thanked the UAE under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for helping the Afghan people. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
