Prince Charles arrives in Oman

March 17, 2013

Muscat: Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Muscat on Sunday evening on a three-day visit. The British Royal was received at the Muscat International Airport by Sayyid Haitham Bin Tariq Al Saeed, Minister of National Heritage and Culture. The visit by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall comes two years after the State Visit of Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Charles, on his fifth visit to Oman, will visit a 17th Century fort and the ancient but still used aflaj system of irrigation.

Oman’s alflaj system is not known just for the ingenuity of the design and construction of the system but also as a way of managing a scarce resource that has worked well for centuries and relies on collaboration between the users of the water.

The British Royals will also see tradition: artisans practicing traditional crafts, the state of the art new Diabetes Centre in Muscat, a British and an Omani school. The British Prince will also meet Omani entrepreneurs and join a discussion on financing start-up companies. The Duchess is scheduled to meet leading Omani women.
