Prime Minister of Finland Jyrki Katainen has stressed the importance of strong relations with the UAE, expressing his country's keenness to boost these ties at all level in various fields.
"UAE is one of the most important trade partners of Finland in the Middle East and the Gulf region," he added.
The visiting Finnish Prime minister, who is leading a high profile trade delegation told WAM that there is a remarkable growth of the Finnish companies operating in the UAE, as well as a number of Finnish citizens who are living in the country in addition to several tourists who come every year.
Alexander Stabb Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Finland is accompanying Katainen along with a trade delegation of top 60 Finnish companies from architectural design, financial services, construction and infrastructure, defence industries, education, energy, renewable energy and health care.
"I hope to know more about the deep-rooted history and traditions of the UAE and to be briefed on its future developmental plans, pointing to the progress and cultural renaissance achieved by state in four decades," he informed.
He added, "We fully believe in the importance of cooperation among the small states in terms of area and population, such as Finland and the UAE as well as exchanging expertise, experiences and ideas in various fields." Talking about trade volume between the two countries, he explained it has gone up to about ?400 million in 2011. The main Finnish exports to the UAE include means of modern technology and communications, audio recording devices and electronics in addition to power generation equipments and others.
Regarding the promotion of direct foreign investment in his country, he said that Finland has modern industrial economy and vivid private sector. There are attractive business environment for direct foreign investments, and government supports business sector with a strong infrastructure and skilled and qualified manpower.
He added that foreign investment is highly welcomed in Finland, and international companies can benefit from the facilities offered by the government.
He pointed out that there are more than 50 Finnish companies operating in the UAE and this figure is surging, expressing his confidence that the Finnish companies are capable of contributing effectively in the economic diversification and they can establish a long-term relationship with the UAE.
Regarding the available opportunities in the UAE for Finnish investors, he said the visiting delegation of companies with him is a proof for their great interest to invest here. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
For his part, Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen said in his address to the forum that his country was looking forward for greater cooperation with the UAE in all fields and at all levels, as one of its key trade partners in the Middle East and Gulf region.
He reviewed steps taken by his country to achieve sustainable development.
He added that his visit to the UAE aims to get first hand information about the economic development and increasing growth in the UAE and explore the prospects of building strategic partnerships at public and private levels.
Praising the UAE cultural and economic progress, the Finnish prime minister expressed his country's desire to offer its technological knowledge and know-how the push the inclusive development process in the UAE forward.
He stressed that the UAE is of paramount importance for Finland's exposure to the region. Both the UAE and Finland, he noted, constitute a key catalyst for progress of relations between Europe and the Gulf region.
He noted to the marked increase of the number of Finnish companies and citizens in the UAE. He expressed the hope that meetings of Emirati and Finnish businessmen would culminate into agreements that strengthen joint trade and economic cooperation. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
Islamabad: Upon the directives by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, many projects have been opened in the Province of Rahim Yar Khan in Punjab region of Pakistan.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab and UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Eisa Abdullah Al Basha Al Nuaimi inaugurated a number of development, education and health projects in Rahim Yar Khan City.
Sharif told the journalists that the population of Punjab are indebted to the UAE President for setting up a number of projects in the region. He added that the initiative of the UAE President reflects the depth of fraternal bonds and cooperation between the two countries, noting that the UAE leadership stands always by Pakistan and offers financial support to help it overcomes difficulties.
The Chief Minister of Punjab cited the social care projects set up by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan across Pakistan - his footsteps are followed by the current UAE President.
For his part, the UAE envoy said the development and social care projects are spread across Pakistan, thanks to the directives by the UAE President, referring to the depth of relations between the two countries.
He said the officials and citizens of Rahim Yar Khan, who received them at the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Airport were so upbeat about the launch of the projects. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
